Earth Science

7th – 8th Grades
Monday: 2:30 am – 4:00 pm

Mrs. Woytkewicz

Welcome to Abeka’s Space and Earth Science! In this course, you’ll explore the fascinating worlds of geology, oceanography, meteorology, astronomy, and environmental science—all through the lens of God’s Word. As you study, you’ll see how God’s incredible design and order are evident in every part of His creation. You’ll discover that science points to a Divine Creator who made the universe and sustains it with His power. This course also emphasizes our God-given responsibility to be good stewards of the earth—using resources wisely and caring for His creation as part of His plan. Get ready to see how everything in the universe reflects God’s greatness and to understand your role as a faithful caretaker of His world.

    Biology with Lab

    8th – 10th Grades
    Monday: 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

    Mr. Rose and Mrs. Howe

High school biology opens your eyes to the amazing design in the world around you. This class includes a lab period where we investigate the concepts covered in class, including: the cell, bacteria and other microscopic life, classification, biological processes such as mitosis and osmosis, DNA, population and migration, fungi, plants, and animals. Evolution is discussed to explain its concepts, but a creationist perspective prevails. Note: Quite a few dissections are done in the lab portion of this course. The human body is covered later in a different class, Human Anatomy and Physiology. Lab supply fee.

Supply List for Biology with Lab
    • 4 Spiral Notebooks
    • Black or Blue Pen
    • Pen of Other Color besides Black or Blue
    • Optional: Highlighters to help study the notes

Human Anatomy & Physiology with Lab

    11th – 12th Grades
    Monday: 12:45 pm – 2:30 pm

    Mrs. Meier

Learning about the human body is an important part of every person’s education because it helps you understand how your body uses the food you eat to run all its life processes, as well as how to take care of your health from the cellular level to the whole person. In this course, we will learn about different types of cells, the brain and other organs, digestion, hormones, blood circulation, tissue healing, and much more. This is a high school science with lab (including dissections), and we will be using Apologia Advanced Biology. Prerequisite for this class is High School Biology.

    • 1 Spiral Notebook
    • Pen / Pencil
    • Colored Pencils

    Chemistry

    11th – 12th Grades
    Monday: 3:00 am – 4:30 pm Lab 4:30pm

    Mrs. How

Welcome to the world of chemistry!  This course opens the physical universe to our inspection.  We learn details about matter, energy, and how they interact on a microscopic and industrial scope.  Topics covered include the atom and the history of its discovery, the Periodic Table, bonding, molecular geometry, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, electromagnetic radiation, solubility, acids and bases, reaction rates, thermodynamics, and basic electrochemistry. The lab period will involve some of the best science you will do as a high schooler.  Be prepared to study hard and feel a real sense of accomplishment when your teacher presents you with a cool piece of chemistry equipment at the end of year celebration.  Grades 10-12, must have completed Algebra I at a minimum, also a Lab Fee.

Supply List for Chemistry with Lab
    • 4 Spiral Notebook
    • Black or Blue Pens / Pencil
    • Colored Pens (not black, blue or red)
    • Box of tissues)

  • Scientific Calculatory like TI-30x or TI-30XIIS (must have “sin,” “cos,” and “tan;” graphing calculator not recommended — unless student is also enrolled in Algebra II or PreCal class)

    Physics

    11th – 12th Grades
    Monday: 10:00am-11:30am Lab 4:30pm – 5:30pm

    Mrs. Howe

Physics is all about fundamentals in the universe.  We learn what happens when things collide, why objects are attracted to one another, and how to apply math to scenarios like these to describe and predict what will happen.  Topics covered include:  velocity, acceleration, gravity, projectiles, forces, friction, circular motion, energy, momentum, periodic motion, electricity, magnetism, light, and much more!  Labs give hands-on experience with what we learn in class.  Prerequisite:  Algebra II preferred. Geometry helpful; may be concurrently enrolled in Algebra II with teacher permission.
