General Science
6th – 8th Grades
Monday: 3:05 pm – 4:35 pm
Mrs. Woytkewicz
In this rigorous general science class, students will study various branches of science in preparation for high school. Starting with a study of science through the ages, we will learn about scientific inquiry and the scientific method, simple machines (applied science), earth science, energy and life science, and the human body systems. Experiments throughout the course will provide practice in applying the scientific method, including how to write a lab report. Bring your curiosity about the world to this class!
- One 1-in. binder
- 1 pkg notebook paper
- Pens/Pencils
- 2 Packages of Index Cards
- Plastic Baggie or Notecard Holder
Biology with Lab
8th – 10th Grades
Monday: 11:45 am – 1:15 pm
Mrs. Howe
High school biology opens your eyes to the amazing design in the world around you. This class includes a lab period where we investigate the concepts covered in class, including: the cell, bacteria and other microscopic life, classification, biological processes such as mitosis and osmosis, DNA, population and migration, fungi, plants, and animals. Evolution is discussed to explain its concepts, but a creationist perspective prevails. Note: Quite a few dissections are done in the lab portion of this course. The human body is covered later in a different class, Human Anatomy and Physiology. Lab fee.
- 4 Spiral Notebooks
- Black or Blue Pens
- Pen of other color besides Black, Blue, or Red
- 1 Box of Gallon or Quart Zipper Bags
Chemistry with Lab
10th – 12th Grades
Monday: 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Lab: 3:05 pm – 4:35 pm
Mrs. Janet Meier
Welcome to the world of chemistry! This course opens the physical universe to our inspection. We learn details about matter, energy, and how they interact on a microscopic and industrial scope. The lab period will involve some of the best science you will do as a high schooler. Be prepared to study hard and feel a real sense of accomplishment when your teacher presents you with a cool piece of chemistry equipment at the end of year celebration. Grades 10-12, must have completed Algebra I at a minimum, also a Lab Fee.
- 4 spiral notebooks
- Black or blue pens
- colored pen (not black, blue, or red)
- Scientific Calculator like TI-30X or TI-30XIIS (must have “sin,” “cos,” and “tan;” graphing calculator not recommended unless student is also enrolled in Algebra II class)
