General Science

6th – 8th Grades
Monday: 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Mrs. Woytkewicz

In this rigorous general science class, students will study various branches of science in preparation for high school.  Starting with a study of science through the ages, we will learn about scientific inquiry and the scientific method, simple machines (applied science), earth science, energy and life science, and the human body systems. Experiments throughout the course will provide practice in applying the scientific method, including how to write a lab report. Bring your curiosity about the world to this class!

Supply List for General Science
  • Pens/Pencils
  • 7 spiral notebooks
  • Colored Pencils
  • Liquid Glue
  • Index Cards
  • Plastic Baggie or Notecard Holder

Physical Science

8th – 9th Grades
Monday: 3:05 pm – 4:35 pm

Mrs. Meier

This course is basically an introductory physics and chemistry course, sometimes called IPC.  Learning the concepts now will prepare you for those upper-level sciences so that later it’s not like learning a whole new language.  We will learn about atoms, molecules, temperature, pressure, phase changes, chemical reactions, forces, energy, velocity, acceleration, electromagnetism, sound, light, and basic astronomy, among other things.  This course will include lab activities during the class time to practice what we are learning through simple experiments.  Grades 8-9.  No HS Science Lab Fee.

Supply List for Physical Science
  • 2 spirals
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Consistent internet access

Physics with Lab

11th – 12th Grades
Tuesday: 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
Lab: 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Mrs. Howe

Physics is all about fundamentals in the universe.  We learn what happens when things collide, why objects are attracted to one another, and how to apply math to scenarios like these to describe and predict what will happen.  Topics covered include:  velocity, acceleration, gravity, projectiles, forces, friction, circular motion, energy, momentum, periodic motion, electricity, magnetism, light, and much more!  Labs give hands-on experience with what we learn in class. Prerequisite:  Algebra II, or Geometry; may be concurrently enrolled in Algebra II with teacher permission; also a HS Science Lab Fee.

Supply List for Chemistry
  • 4 spiral notebooks
  • Black or blue pens
  • colored pen (not black, blue, or red)
  • Scientific Calculator like TI-30X or TI-30XIIS (must have “sin,” “cos,” and “tan;” graphing calculator not recommended unless student is also enrolled in Algebra II class)

Chemistry with Lab

10th – 12th Grades
Tuesday: 8:30 am – 10:00 am
Lab: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Mrs. Howe

Welcome to the world of chemistry!  This course opens the physical universe to our inspection.  We learn details about matter, energy, and how they interact on a microscopic and industrial scope.  The lab period will involve some of the best science you will do as a high schooler. Be prepared to study hard and feel a real sense of accomplishment when your teacher presents you with a cool piece of chemistry equipment at the end of year celebration.  Grades 10-12, must have completed Algebra I or concurrently enrolled with teacher permission; also a HS Science Lab Fee.
